F.U.S.E. Your Way to Unlimited Strategic Content Ideas

March 05, 202411 min read

Did you ever feel like content creation is a terrifying beast that you keep battling every day?

Are you constantly overwhelmed with questions like 'what do I talk about?' or 'how do I connect with my audience?'

If you nodded your head in agreement, you're not alone.

We've all been there.

But, what if I told you there's a way to tame this beast, simplify the process, and never worry again about what to talk about?

Say hello to my F.U.S.E. model for creating a powerful content ecosystem.

This is a potent tool designed to ignite your content ecosystem and catapult your business to new heights.

Let me show you how to do it...

F = Focus Of Your Content

Your content Focus is the guiding compass for your content creation journey.

Having a clear focus is vital.

It helps you stay on track by aligning your content with your mission statement and the needs of your ideal character.

With the right focus statement, you can ensure you don't get off track or spend time on content that doesn't fit with who you are and how you help your audience.

How to Do It...

Here's a simple template for you to craft your focus statement:

"I'm on a mission to help [my ideal character] accomplish [their big dreams] so that they can [achieve amazing outcomes]. To do that, they need to be educated in…"

Here are some examples of focus statements for various service-based entrepreneurs using the given template:

  • Life Coach: "I'm on a mission to help individuals unlock their untapped potential so that they can live a life of fulfillment and joy. To do that, they need to be educated in the art of mindfulness, self-awareness, and emotional intelligence."

  • Business Consultant: "I'm on a mission to help small businesses optimize their operations so that they can maximize profit and scale up. To do that, they need to be educated in strategic planning, financial management, and market analysis."

  • Marketing Agency: "I'm on a mission to help brands captivate their target audience so that they can increase their market share and build a strong reputation. To do that, they need to be educated in the intricacies of SEO, content creation, and social media strategy."

  • Fitness Trainer: "I'm on a mission to help people achieve their health goals so that they can enjoy a life of vitality and wellness. To do that, they need to be educated in proper exercise techniques, nutrition, and the value of consistency."

  • Financial Advisor: "I'm on a mission to help families secure their financial future so that they can enjoy peace of mind and stability. To do that, they need to be educated in investment strategies, budgeting, and retirement planning."

  • E-commerce Specialist: "I'm on a mission to help retailers transition to the online space so that they can tap into a wider market and improve sales. To do that, they need to be educated in website design, digital marketing, and customer experience enhancement."

Remember, a compelling focus statement not only outlines your mission, but it also identifies the educational areas your clients need to be successful.

It's all about how you can help your audience achieve their dreams and the outcomes they desire.

The more clear and specific your focus statement, the more effective your content will be in resonating with your target audience.

U = Universe of Information

Universes is where you create different clusters of content, each focusing on a specific area that your audience needs to be successful.

Creating a universe of information helps you create varied and enriched content which keeps your audience engaged and informed.

Goalposts and Guardrails...

  • These universes function like predetermined goalposts for your content creation. They provide the overarching themes that your content should align with, ensuring relevance and value for your audience.

  • They also serve as guardrails, preventing your content from straying off-course, diffusing its impact.

These universes offer a rich, diverse, yet focused set of themes, ensuring you won't run out of relevant content ideas.

However, remember, these are broad, high-level universes. You'll need to delve deeper, breaking these down into smaller clusters for effective content creation. That's where 'S - Segments' and 'E - Elements' come into the picture, but we'll get to those later.

As a content creator, these universes are your north star, always guiding you towards creating content that resonates with your audience, supports their journey, and solidifies your authority and credibility in your niche.

How to Do It...

Start by identifying 3-5 broad topics or areas that your avatar needs to be successful. Make sure these topics are broad enough, each capable of containing hundreds of possible sub-topics.

To elaborate on the examples given in the focus statements above, we dig into 'U - Universe of Information' for a 'Business Consultant' based on their focus statement.

Consider the focus statement:

"I'm on a mission to help small businesses optimize their operations so that they can maximize profit and scale up. To do that, they need to be educated in strategic planning, financial management, and market analysis."

From here, let's create three to five universes of information, each focusing on a specific area that small businesses need to succeed.

  • Universe 1 - Strategic Planning Providing insights on developing comprehensive strategies, setting SMART objectives, and assisting with decision-making processes.

  • Universe 2 - Financial Management Addressing budget planning, cash flow management, financial forecasting, and investment strategies relevant for small businesses.

  • Universe 3 - Market Analysis Delivering information on how to conduct a useful market analysis, understanding competitors, identifying market trends, and using this knowledge to make informed decisions.

  • Universe 4 - Operational Efficiency Assisting with the optimization of business operations, reducing wastage, implementing lean principles, and improving overall productivity.

  • Universe 5 - Scaling Up Guiding the process of scaling a business, exploring potential growth strategies, and advising on managing challenges that come with growth.

Through the creation of these information universes, a business consultant can systematically educate small businesses in areas vital to their success and growth. These universes provide the groundwork for varied, valuable, and engaging content that resonates effectively with the target audience.

S = Segments

Think of Segments as the smaller, more focused areas of your Universes of Information.

They allow you to break down each Universe into smaller, more digestible pieces, honing in on the particular aspects within the broader Universes.

It also allows you to approach the same topic from different angles that are relevant to the bigger Universe.

Like in the example above, let's say you want to talk about creating a financial plan. If it's in the Financial Management Universe, you'd talk about creating a plan to manage your finances. If it's in the Operational Efficiency Universe, you'd talk about the most efficient ways to implement and manage your financial plan.

Same topic — but slightly different when you focus it into the Universe's greater goals.

Keep in mind that each Segment also helps to guide your brainstorming, steering it in the right direction, ensuring that the larger Universe theme and the granular Segment subject smoothly complement each other in your narratives.

How to Do It...

Identify 5 to 10 sub-categories within each Universe. Make sure each segment can contain at least 30+ content pieces.

Given the Universe "Strategic Planning" for a Business Consultant, here are some examples of Segments:

  • Segment 1 - Strategy Development: This segment is all about how to develop business strategies. Topics could include the benefits of strategic planning, different strategic planning models, and how to create a business strategy.

  • Segment 2 - Setting Objectives: The focus here is on setting business objectives as part of strategic planning. This could cover ways to set effective objectives, the importance of objectives in business, and tips for achieving your business objectives.

  • Segment 3 - Decision-Making Process: This segment could discuss the decision-making process in business, the role of strategic planning in decision making, and methods or models to help make better business decisions.

  • Segment 4 - Resource Allocation: This segment is all about resource allocation in strategic planning, how to allocate resources effectively, and aligning resource allocation with business objectives.

  • Segment 5 - Strategy Implementation: This section could focus on implementing strategic plans, common challenges during implementation, and strategies for successful implementation.

Remember, while these segments break down the broader universe of "Strategic Planning", each segment itself is rich enough to generate 30+ Elements of Essential Information, ensuring an abundant flow of diverse, informative, and engaging content.

E = Elements

Continuing from where we left off, we're going to delve into understanding 'E - Elements'.

Elements form the nitty-gritty, the tiny titbits of knowledge, that make up each Segment, delivering essential insights to your audience.

They are the individual blog posts, social media updates, podcast episodes, and videos that collectively form your mighty content ecosystem.

For now, I don't want you to get hung up on the type of content vehicle (blogs, socials, emails)... just simply focus on the information that you need to convey to your target audience. You can figure out what the best vehicle for you is later.

Imagine these Elements as the essential building blocks of your content — numerous, digestible pieces of wisdom that come together to form the grand architecture of your content ecosystem.

These Elements contain the information your audience needs to know to be successful —and eventually hire you.

They could be:

  • Key strategies or tactics they need to know,

  • Valuable tips or tricks that you've learned from your experience,

  • Revealing the common mistakes to avoid,

  • Answers to frequently asked questions,

  • Providing how-to guides or tutorials,

  • Or exploring case studies and sharing success stories.

These are the practical, informational, and enlightening pearls distilling your wisdom, expertise, and unique perspective into easily consumable content pieces.

Remember, each Element should provide value on its own while also fitting neatly within its Segment, Universe, and the overall Focus of Your Content.

How to Do It...

Imagine mining each Segment for valuable nuggets of content — these are your Elements.

Now, identify 30+ unique Elements of Essential Information within each Segment.

For instance, consider the Segment 'Strategy Development' under the Universe 'Strategic Planning' for the Business Consultant I've been using in the previous examples.

Here are some potential Elements that would fit in that Segment, Universe, and Focus.

  • Element 1 - Understanding What a Business Strategy Is: Breaking down the concept of a business strategy, explaining its relevance, and differentiating it from tactics.

  • Element 2 - The Role of Vision in Strategy Development: Discussing the importance of having a clear vision during strategy development, showing how a vision statement can guide strategic planning.

  • Element 3 - Steps to Develop a Business Strategy: Outlining a step-by-step guide to develop a comprehensive business strategy, from conducting a SWOT analysis to setting strategic objectives.

  • Element 4 - Different Types of Business Strategies: Exploring different strategic approaches businesses can consider, such as cost leadership, differentiation, and focus strategies.

  • Element 5 - The Role of Analysis in Strategy Development: Highlighting how data and analysis form the backbone of successful strategy development, explaining methods like PESTEL and Porter's Five Forces.

  • Element 6 - Implementing Your Business Strategy: Delving into the challenges of strategy execution, discussing the importance of communication, resource allocation, and continuous monitoring.

  • Element 7 - The Role of Innovation in Strategy Development: Discussing the need for innovation in business strategy, introducing concepts like Blue Ocean Strategy, and explaining how to foster innovative thinking.

Each of these Elements is an opportunity to provide valuable information to your audience, educate your future clients, and showcase your expertise.

And each element can be produced as a blog, or an email, or a social post, or a video, or a workshop... and so many more content vehicles.
